Potatoes love the Potato Smart™ Container!

Why? The container offers ideal lighting conditions, sufficient ventilation, and optimal humidity - just the way potatoes like it.

Our Potato Smart™ Container was developed following research on keeping potatoes in the best environment, so they stay fresher for longer in a neat, convenient spot.

Includes one 8¾-qt./8.3 L container and one seal with vented access panel.

DESCRIPTION

With its user-friendly design, the container's flip-front access panel has the ideal number of holes for the best level of air circulation.

This optimal atmosphere inside the PotatoSmart™ ensures a combination of:

  • proper humidity for minimizing weight loss, helping potatoes remain firm
  • minimized sprouting
  • minimized rotting
  • reduced odors
  • minimized condensation inside
  • minimized production of solanine (poisonous substance in nightshade plants such as potatoes)

The container has the capacity to keep up to 11 lbs./5 kg of potatoes dry and fresh for a longer period. The cap and the seal can be fully removed for quick, easy refilling and for thorough cleaning.

Stack it neatly and efficiently with additional Potato Smart™ Containers, the Onion & Garlic Smart™ Container, or the Garlic 'N All Keeper without restricting air flow.

BENEFITS

  • Saves you money: Design provides optimum storage conditions for sufficient air circulation, light, and humidity, resulting in longer shelf life* and less waste.
  • Convenient capacity: holds up to 11 lbs/5 kg of potatoes; varies according to potato size

USE & CARE

  • Dishwasher safe
  • Not freezer safe
  • Not safe for use in microwave
  • Approved for food use
  • Can be recycled
  • The preservation time of your potatoes in the Potato Smart™ Container is determined by ambient temperature and air humidity.
  • Potatoes are best kept between 45°F/7°C and 50°F/10°C. At lower temperatures, potato starch converts into sugar. At higher temperatures, potatoes becomes dehydrated.
  • Avoid storing under the sink which is often a warm environment close to the dishwasher.
  • Store in a cool place, away from direct sunlight, for best results.
  • The Potato Smart™ Container can also be used in cellars that are not too damp.
  • Periodically wash the Container to maintain good performance, especially if any liquid has dripped or spilled into it.

Assembly:

  • Before fitting the seal onto the container, attach the access flap to the seal by pressing the knobs through the six small holes.
  • To seal, align the seal frame with the container. With the cap open, first press the seal onto the front of the container. Then slide your thumbs along the rim of the seal and press into place from front to back.
  • To close the access flap, press firmly and simultaneously on the two indents at both corners of the flap with your thumbs while holding the container with the other fingers of both hands. When you hear a click, the flap is closed.
  • The tab of the flap is slightly larger to make it very easy to lift to open. As you push the flap up, it will fix in the open position and stay open as needed.

TIPS

  • Potatoes are nutrient-dense vegetables (Vitamin C, Folate, Niacin, B6, carbohydrates, protein, dietary fiber, minerals) and should only be peeled just prior to cooking to prevent oxidation.
  • Early potatoes are harvested before they are fully ripe. These are best used within a week for the best taste.
